35,000 hectares of the Charentes' seaboard, are natural marshes and wetlands. The marshes of Rochefort, Brouage and Seudre offer a startling landscape overflowing with the most exceptionally diverse fauna and flora.
Climbing the promontory of the tower at Broue, near Marennes, you will find yourself with a view dominating hundreds of square kilometres of irrigation ditches which cross and re-cross each other before finding the ocean.
A genuine paradise for the birdlife of the atlantic littoral. Herons, egrets and other migratory waterfowl may be regularly seen here.
Visits to the Charente-Maritime wetlands maybe organised through the Pôles Nature de la Charente-Maritime; the brochure is to be found in all our campsites.
